Neighbours in Need

“A man is not a believer who fills his stomach while his neighbour is hungry.” – Prophet Muhammad PBUH

There is a growing need in the UK for local distribution of charitable funds both of Sadaqa and Zakat. With the situation in the Middle East worsening day by day we have seen an influx refugees migrating from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and other neighbouring countries. There are an estimated 60 million people throughout the world forced to flee their homes and thousands are arriving in the UK.

There has also been a stark rise in the number of people in the UK falling in food poverty, homelessness and destitution.

  • There are approximately 117,000 refugees living in the UK
  • The UK received 38,878 asylum applications in 2015 and just 45% of those applicants were granted asylum and allowed to stay in the country
  • The British Red Cross figures show that at least 580 Syrian refugees came to the UK between January and September 2016 including 280 children
  • Almost all asylum seekers are not allowed to work in the UK and are forced to rely on state support – this can be as little as £5 a day to live on
  • More than 8 million people in Britain live in households that struggle to put food on the table with over half going a day without eating
